DoorMaster Tips : Avoiding Door Trouble, Rot and Warping

Rot, warping and jambing issues on wooden external doors

The problem with the issues mentioned above is normally caused by the owners of the doors and not because the wooden doors are inferior.

• Keep the door in good decorative order, including the top and the bottom edges.
• Check the external sealant between the frame and the wall, get it repaired if its cracked or missing as dampness gets in and swells the frame which in turn causes the door to start jamming. 
• Check the hinges and renew them if the “pin” between each of the hinge leafs start to drop, this issue causes the door to hit the lock edge of the frame at the top as the door pulls further away from the hinge side.
• Check the moving parts of the hinge leafs where they meet each other, if there are gaps between these the door will drop and hit the floor, sill or threshold.
• Take out your locks and give them a quick squirt of WD40 or similar then a spot or two of 3 in 1 oil, check all the screws are tight then refit the lock(s) to the door.

Lastly, if you don’t maintain the door and fittings you shouldn’t be surprised if the door has some or all the above issues,

make sure your doors are in good conditions every 3 to 4 weeks, call a professional carpenter if your doors are experiencing the warping and rotting  problems
